Book Review: The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl

5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5) The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl – Theodora Goss

Final installment of this fun and whimsical trilogy about a group of ‘monstrous women’ who find friendship and family with one another while traveling Europe to solve mysteries and save their friends.

I’m always a little sad when I finish a book/series that I truly enjoy and that is definitely how I felt at the end of The Extraordinary Adventures of the Athena Club book three. The characters in this series are the daughters of classic literatures’ most famous scientists, alchemists, and academics who utilized their ‘scientific methods’ to create women with extraordinary abilities. However, those fabulous abilities oftentimes get in the way of living a ‘normal’ life with family and friends. Thus, our heroines come together to form The Athena Club which ultimately provides a home, a family, and friendship for this group of women who have had to learn to ‘live without.’

In this final installment, as The Athena Club attempts to rescue one of their own while also saving the Queen of England, they encounter a resurrected Egyptian Priestess who wields the power over life, death, and even people’s perceptions of the world around them. Mary, Diana, Catherine, Justine, and Beatrice call in help from unlikely sources to help unravel the mystery of Alice’s abduction and to help ensure the continuation of Queen Victoria’s reign.

This is a series that I will never hesitate to recommend to anyone who is looking for a fun mystery with interesting characters. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series for the second time!
