Girl Waits with Gun

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5) Girl Waits with Gun – Amy Stewart

If you like a fun, quick-witted, crime novel with an intriguing protagonist then I recommend picking up this book. It’s the first in a series and sets the stage for Constance Kopp becoming a criminal detective in early 20th century New Jersey.

The three Kopp sisters live in a country house with no ‘male protector’ which makes them an oddity in early 20th cen. America. However, the three manage just fine on their own and have no desire to move near their brother and his family. But one day when they are driving their horse and buggy into town they get hit by a car and everything in their quiet lives changes forever. When Constance appeals to the driver for money to repair their property, she learns that he is no ordinary man but a powerful business owner who has no intention of admitting his fault and paying reparations to the Kopp sisters for their damaged buggy.

While Constance does some investigating on her own she also finds it beneficial to team up with the local sheriff in hopes of obtaining some semblance of justice for herself and a new acquaintance she comes in contact with during her visits to the business man’s dye factory. This story offers the reader interesting and unique characters, a bit of suspense, and a satisfying conclusion which sets the stage for further books in the series.
