Book Review: European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman

5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5) European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman – Theodora Goss

…and the adventure continues!! This is the second book of The Extraordinary Adventures of the Athena Club trilogy and it is just as much fun as the first!! In this installment, the members of the Athena Club, who are all ‘monstrous creations’ of classic literature’s Victorian alchemists, doctors, and academics, must travel to the continent to help rescue another young woman who has been experimented on by her father, the famous Dr. Van Helsing!!

In this story, our heroines must overcome the trials of traveling in a foreign land, being kidnapped, fighting beings that will not die, and relying on people they have never met, in order to rescue Lucinda Van Helsing from an asylum in which her father has placed her “for her own safety and benefit.” They also confront members of the Alchemical Society in hopes of stopping them from continuing dubious and highly unethical ‘scientific’ research and experimentation which has resulted in the creation of beings with ‘monstrous’ abilities.

The members of the Athena Club encounter new adversaries as well as make new, and powerful, allies and friends. They work together toward a common goal while supporting each other even when personalities clash and everyone is at their wit’s end!! A fun and entertaining mystery series that demonstrates the power of ‘belonging’ and ‘friendship.’

Read on my friends!
