Book Review: The Bangalore Detectives Club

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5) The Bangalore Detectives Club by Harini Nagendra

I really do love an easy to read, unique, mystery book! This book is the first in the Kaveri and Ramu series and offered the reader an atmospheric setting, 1930’s Bangalore, as well as slightly eccentric characters (at least for their time) which made reading this book a simple pleasure.

Kaveri and Ramu are a recently married couple living in Bangalore where Ramu is a physician and Kaveri is a highly educated ‘detective in waiting’! While this story revolves around Kaveri’s investigations of a murder committed at a dinner party for members of the Century Club, I love that the author, Harini Nagendra, also told the story of Kaveri and Ramu learning about one another and coming into their own as a married couple. Nagendra, utilizes this relationship to educate the reader about the historical time and setting in which the story takes place as well as the wide range of cultural traditions and expectations especially, as they relate to women and men and appropriate behavior/relationships.

I found this book to be a fun read with delightful characters and an appropriately interesting mystery. I look forward to reading more in this series when they come out!

Read on my friends!
