The Stardust Thief

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5) The Stardust Thief – Chelsea Abdullah

This is the first book in the Sandsea Trilogy and certainly sets the stage for the next two books! The story follows several primary characters who are forced together to search for an ancient magical artifact with the potential to change the world!

The story focuses on the stories of three main characters, a thief, a prince, and a warrior. Their stories collide when they are sent into the desert together at the behest of the king (an order rather than a request) and they must learn to work together and trust one another if they are to survive and succeed on their mission. I love the magical world of jinn, efrit, and desert warriors that Abdullah creates in this book. She tells the story while also providing the reader with the necessary background to understand the magical world in which her characters live.

I listened to this book as an audio recording and appreciated the different narrators as the story switches from one character to another. Hearing different voices for the individual characters added depth and nuance to the story that may have been missing if I had read this myself. Abdullah does an excellent job of character development and weaves each character’s narrative and relationships into the story in an interesting and unique manner. While fantasy/SciFi is not my usual go-to genre, I enjoyed listening to this book and find myself looking forward to the next two books in this series.

Read on my friends!
