The Arrival by Shaun Tan

5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5) – It Completes Me!

It is not every day that you give a five star review to a book that doesn’t have any words, but that is literally what I am doing with this review.

“The Arrival” by Shaun Tan is a graphic novel of rich imagination utilizing a pace and patience that creates the opportunity for readers to get lost in the beauty and detail of the world Tan has created.  This is the story of a man leaving his family and going to a new world.  Yes, it’s about the immigration experience and how complicated, challenging yet inspiring such a life choice has on the people who dare take such a journey.

This book captures heartache, wonder, blossoming friendships and the perseverance of the human spirit to find love, joy and hope in circumstances beyond their control.  The art is magnificent. Magnificent! Give yourself the gift of picking this book up and consuming the art, the masterful storytelling and be moved by Tan’s portrayal of a daily human experience.

Happy Reading!
