Nettle And Bone by T. Kingfisher

5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5)– It Completes Me!!!!

Here is another book I picked up from a “spooky reads” list for October.  And another short, fairy tale flavored story that utterly charmed and surprised me.  I was going for a theme this October apparently and even though I still do not love a fairy tale, T. Kingfisher DELIVERED in this delightfully charming and creepy fairy tale inspired tale. I loved every single page.

This is the second time I’ve read T. Kingfisher.  I read “In Hollow Places” in 2021 and I enjoyed her characters but I didn’t super connect to the plot and chalked that up to not reading a great deal of suspense/horror.  In “Nettle & Bone” I once again fell in love with Kingfisher’s characters but this time I totally understood the plot and enjoyed this beautifully imaginative book.

Kingfisher has a knack for writing the odd, quirky character that I easily fall in love with and in this story she has four of them. Each extremely different, but all endearing and you root for them even as you try to figure out what in the world their “deal” is and how this whole adventure will work out.

If you like quirks, laughing out loud while reading mixed with charming naivety and dark circumstances this is your next book. And even if you don’t like all those things, I say give it a try anyway.

Happy Reading!
