Haddi’s Top 5 Fiction 2023

Hannah posted her Top 5 Fiction last week so here is my 2023 Top 5 Fiction list! This list is in no particular order and the books include historical fiction, gothic literature, Victorian mystery, and more! I hope you enjoy these books as much as I did! Happy Reading in 2024!Β

Β

This is an historical fiction novel about a group of women who lived in the northern-most region of Norway during the period of Christianization of Europe. These women endured tragedy and hardship while forming close friendships and life-long bonds with one another. I recommended this one to my mom and she loved it too!

This one is a bit of a commitment but it’s well worth the time and effort. Jeffers brings to life a story of family and genealogy that you will never forget! If you like family saga and/or family history this one is definitely for you.

Since I read this one, I can’t stop recommending it as a fun adventure with loveable quirky characters. Amina al-Sirafi is a retired pirate who spends her time raising her daughter but she can’t help but say ‘yes’ to “one final adventure.” This book introduces the reader to a group of eccetric pirates out to ‘rescue’ a young woman kidnapped from her home but as always, there is much more to the story. I can’t wait for the second book in this series to come out!

This is modern gothic literature and Laura Purcell is one of the best modern gothic authors that I’ve read. I’ve picked up several of her books but this remains my favorite. It’s dark, creepy, and the story remains a bit unresolved but so worth it if you love a haunting atmospheric read.

This is the first in the Saffron Everleigh mystery series and I am very much looking forward to the next volume due to come out this year. This is a fun and easy read with a twisty mystery and even a little romance story woven throughout.
