5 Fiction Books

Everything is better with pirates! This is a fun magical story about a retired pirate who finds herself unable to say ‘no’ to “one last job.” The story follows Amina Al-Sirafi and her crew of lovable pirates as they search for a young women supposedly kidnapped by a vicious European pirate. But as is usually the case, there is more to the story than initially meets the eye.

This is an intriguing murder-mystery with magical elements that add to the complexity of the story. Plus, who doesn’t love MAPS! If you (or someone on your list) loves mysteries, maps, or fantasy stories this one is sure to please.

This is one of my all-time favorite books! I’ve read it several times and watched the TNT series as well! This book is historical fiction that tells the story of an alienist (early psychologist) in late 19th century New York City as he and his team investigate a series of particularly heinous murders.

This one is perfect for all the science-lovers out there! A story of survival, loyalty, and the power of the human spirit. The story follows Watney as he struggles to survive on Mars after being presumed dead by his crew and thus, left behind. Filled with both humor and tragedy, ultimately this story is a testament to the power of human ingenuity and our ability to hope even when our circumstances are desperate.

Another one of my all-time favorite books! This is a trilogy and you’ll want to pick up books 2 & 3 once you finish this one! This series tells the story of ‘The Athena Club,’ a group of misfit 19th century women who happen to be the daughters of famous literary figures such as Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde, Dr. Frankenstein, Dr. Moreau, and Dr. Van Helsing. These women come together to solve the mysteries surrounding their lives and existence but find they are more than simply misfits, they are family.
