(5 / 5) – It Completes Me!
It may not be true for every avid reader, but I have found books that I enjoy going back to again and again. Almost like a palate cleanser if you will. After reading many books that challenge, or push me, it is nice to return to a world, characters or crisis that is familiar. Max Brooks’, “World War Z” is one such book for me.
My last review read stated, “This is the only Zombie book I have ever read. I have read it now three times and I still love every chapter of it. I listened to the Audible version and it was stunning. You honestly felt like it was an oral history of something that occurred, horrifying as that may be. I am always surprised by how engaged I am and how much I learn every time I read it. I am not a huge zombie fan, but I am so glad I read this book when it was recommended to me and I would recommend it to just about anyone who is intrigued by the human side of war.”
My review still holds up after a fifth read and I would add that there are not many books that I would say both entertain and sharply comment on the social political realities we suffer under and the unintended consequences they bring upon us personally and collective, but “World War Z” does this beautifully and apparently well enough I come back to it time and time again.
