A Wrinkle in Time

We had this book sitting on our shelf my entire childhood but I am not sure I ever actually read it. I first saw a trailer for the new movie when I went to Star Wars before Christmas and knew immediately that I HAD to see this film!! It looks amazing!! Visually, the trailer was stunning and who doesn’t want to see a movie with a cast of Oprah, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon,  Zach Galifianakis, and Chris Pine?! I mean seriously!! Needless to say, I am very excited to see this movie in the theater March 9th.

Here is a trailer if you’re wondering what I am talking about…

Since this is a kids book it doesn’t take long to read, just a few hours really, and it’s totally worth it! The main protagonist is a young girl who is unsure of herself and her place in the world/school/family, but she possesses amazing gifts which are essential to the success of her adventure. Very quickly, the reader learns that our young protagonist’s (Meg) father disappeared a few years prior to the beginning of the story and it is the search for her father that leads Meg, her younger brother and a friend to seek out the help of three ‘odd old ladies’ living in a haunted house nearby. And so the journey begins…

Hannah and I chatted about this book and movie the other day and she decided that she would not read the book until after she saw the movie so she could more fully enjoy the movie ‘as is’ without continually comparing it to the book, this makes total sense to me. However, I am glad that I read the book beforehand so I am familiar with the story which will make it easier for me to more fully enjoy the visual majesty of the film and the personalities of the already familiar characters. No matter which you prefer; reading the book before you see the movie or reading the book after you see the movie, I highly recommend doing both!

Read on my friends!
